Join us this summer as we celebrate Black authors with a summer reading challenge. Our goal is for patrons of all ages to read 131 books by Black authors, one book for every year the Library has been in existence. These books range from contemporary fiction, mystery, romance, sci-fi, fantasy, essays, plays, and poetry to young adult, middle grade, and picture books. Can you help us meet the challenge? We will periodically post the tally in the Night  Owl and on the website. Below is a list of Black authors to help guide your book selection. All authors included below have books available through the Norfolk Library.

You can let us know what books you’ve read by:

  • Emailing us at
  • Calling us at 860-542-5075
  • Posting about the book on Instagram and tagging @norfolklibraryct
  • Posting about the book on Facebook and tagging @thenorfolklibrary
  • Drop us a note in the book when you return it to the library
